The challenge

A new digital identity for a merging charity.

Scleroderma & Raynaud’s UK (SRUK) is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by Scleroderma and Raynaud’s. 

In 2016, two separate charities - the Scleroderma Society and the Raynaud's & Scleroderma Association - merged to form SRUK, strengthening their mission to support those living with these conditions. However, the new organisation needed a strong, cohesive digital presence that could: 

  • Educate visitors on symptoms, treatments, and support services 
  • Encourage donations to fund research and advocacy efforts 
  • Promote fundraising activities and increase community engagement 
  • Support an ecommerce platform for products that help alleviate symptoms 

SRUK partnered with Giant Digital to create a modern, user-first digital platform that could unify its audience, boost awareness, and increase financial support. 

The opportunity

A digital experience built for growth.

SRUK’s new website needed to: 

  • Simplify complex medical information to make it accessible to a wider audience 
  • Guide different user groups - those seeking support and those wanting to help 
  • Enhance the donor journey to make giving seamless 
  • Support an ecommerce shop as an additional income stream 

By conducting in-depth user research and journey mapping, we ensured the website would effectively engage, educate, and inspire action. 

The solution

A scalable, user-first digital platform.

1. Building a stronger brand identity 

SRUK needed a bold, recognisable brand to stand out and drive awareness. 

We designed a modern, visually engaging website that: 

  • Showcases SRUK’s mission and impact front and centre 
  • Creates a seamless journey for visitors, making it easy to access key information 
  • Encourages donations and fundraising participation 

The site was built on Django CMS, ensuring flexibility for future growth and easy content updates by the SRUK team. 

2. Smarter user journeys for greater engagement 

To cater to both those seeking support and those wanting to contribute, we: 

  • Developed user personas and mapped their journeys to personalise the experience 
  • Created a clear, structured navigation to ensure quick access to essential resources 
  • Introduced local support group discovery tools to connect people with in-person help 

By focusing on user needs, we ensured that visitors could easily find the right information, whether they were patients, supporters, or healthcare professionals. 

3. Making giving easier with a seamless donation journey 

To streamline the donation process and increase conversions, we: 

Integrated Blackbaud eTapestry, enabling: 

  • One-time and recurring donations 
  • Subscription and in-memory giving options 
  • A friction-free donation flow 

With a clear and compelling donation experience, SRUK saw a significant increase in contributions post-launch. 

4. A shop that supports the cause 

SRUK’s BigCommerce-powered shop allows users to purchase products that alleviate symptoms, including gloves, socks and heat packs.  

The mobile-optimised design was critical, as many users Google symptoms while actively experiencing discomfort. This frictionless ecommerce experience provided SRUK with a new revenue stream while helping people manage their conditions. 

5. Helping people identify symptoms with the Raynaud’s test 

Since Raynaud’s is widely misunderstood, we worked with SRUK to develop an interactive Raynaud’s test to help users identify symptoms. 

  • Five simple questions guide users through key indicators of the condition. 
  • If all answers suggest possible Raynaud’s, users are advised to seek medical advice. 

This test not only raised awareness but also positioned SRUK as a trusted authority on the condition.

SRUK’s new website isn’t just a short-term fix, it’s a scalable digital solution designed for long-term success. 

The platform is continuously evolving, with: 

  • Data-driven UX optimisations using insights from Blackbaud eTapestry & Stripe 
  • Enhanced donation analytics to improve conversion rates 
  • Ongoing content updates to expand their reach and impact 

The project was so impactful that in June 2016, SRUK was named Charity of the Month by Unite/CPHVA for its awareness-raising efforts.
